The RSPCA has yesterday released a study which reveals that whipping racehorses for the purposes of making them run faster is both pointless and futile.
Kudos to Professor Paul McGreevy and Dr David Evans, and of course the RSPCA. A copy of the study can be viewed on the RSPCA Australia website.
We couldn’t say it better ourselves so we’ll use the direct quote from Professor Paul McGreevy:
“Top performance horses have been bred and prepared to give of their best. Add to that excellent horsemanship and you’ve got a winning combination. That’s all you need. We have evidence here that great horsemanship does not involve flogging tired horses.”
So if you’re sick of seeing jockeys “flogging a dead horse” get behind us and join our call for a ban on the whip.
